    • 1.I use Microsoft Word and Excel to modify Google Docs files, but I found the sync will not happen when I save my file, but only when Microsoft Office closes, why?

The reason lies in that Microsoft Word and Excel opens files exclusively, which means when Microsoft Word opens a file, there is no way other programs can open and read it. So, GDocsDrive must wait until Word or Excel removes it hands from the file to sync it back.

For most other programs, which do not open files exclusively, the modified file can be synced back anytime that changes occur.

    • 2.If one file is modified in a local application by two collaborators at the same time, can GDocsDrive detect the conflict when it is synced back?

It cannot. Due to an imperfection in Google Docs API, client apps cannot detect changes in real-time when a file is being simultaneously modified by more than one user.

In this situation, the latter changes will overwrite the former without any warning.

Once improved version detecting is supported by Google, we will fix this issue as soon as possible.

    • 3.How can I update my GDocsDrive when a new version becomes available?

Automatic updating is integrated in our product. Usually, when a new version becomes available, you will be notified when you start GDocsDrive, provided the “Enable automatic update check” is enabled in the Settings dialog box.

You can also select “Check for updates” from the Help menu. The whole updating process is simple to complete.

    • 4.I am a user of GDocsDrive ver1.2.5, does the auto-upgrade work for me?

Version 2.0 is a major upgrade and is quite different from the Version1.x. The automatic upgrade cannot cover all the changes of the new version, so we strongly recommend that you manually download the latest version and install it.

You do not need to uninstall the former version, just install version 2.0, and the old files will be overwritten without a problem.

    • 5.How can I upload multiple files and folders simultaneously?

      There are three ways:

      • Drag them from Windows Explorer and drop them into GDocsDrive
      • Copy (CTRL+C) them in Windows Explorer and paste(CTRL+V) them into GDocsDrive
      • Click the “Upload” button from the main menu or toolbar to select the files to upload. Note: Folders cannot be uploaded in this way
    • 6.Can I upload a local file or folder directly to a specific collection on Google Docs?

Yes, just drag the file(or folder) and drop it on the destination collection in the left tree, or navigate the list view to the destination collection and drop the file or folder there.

Copy (Ctrl +C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) works too.

    • 7.How can I move a file between different collections?

Drag the file from one collection and drop it in another.

      or

Cut (Ctrl +X) the file in one collection and Paste(Ctrl +V) it in another.

    • 8.How can I copy a file into another collection?

Press the Ctrl key and drag the file and drop it in the destination collection.

      or

Copy(Ctrl +C) the file in one collection and Paste(Ctrl +V) them in another.

    • 9.I have a file located in several collections on Google Docs, and when I delete it from one collection, it disappears in all the collections. Why?

This is part of Google’s design.

No matter how many collections the file is located in, there is actually only one copy that exists in Google Docs. So, if you delete the file in any location, it is removed from every collection.

GDocsDrive behaves completely the same as the web-based Google Docs for nearly all operations. So deleting one copy of a file will result in deleting it entirely in all collections.

    • 10.When I download my files on GDocsDrive to my computer by dragging and dropping, they do not appear at the destination folder while they are in the process of downloading. Is this a problem?

One way to download files is to drag the selected items and drop them where you want them. In this drag and drop downloading process, the downloaded files/folders will first download to the hidden temp directory on your system. They will not be moved to the destination folder until all the files have finished downloading. During this process, none of the files will appear until the process is completed.

If this is a concern, we recommend that instead of dragging and dropping the files, you select the download option from the context menu to download your files. In this way, each file will appear as soon as it finishes downloading by this method.

    • 11.I want to change a Microsoft Office Word file(*.doc) to an Open Office format, so I uploaded it to Google Docs through GDocsDrive. However, I cannot find an export or convert option for the uploaded file. Why can’t I convert my file?

Because of the limitations of Google Docs, to convert an Office file to another format, like PDF, HTML, TXT, or Open Office format, you first need to convert the file to a Google Docs format when you upload it. To do this, select ‘Tools’ from the main menu, and then select ‘Settings…’ in the dialog box that appears. Finally, check “Convert documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and drawings to the corresponding Google Docs formats”. Now your files will automatically be converted to Google Docs formats, and can be converted to many other formats as well.

Please Note: Only the following file types can be edited online and converted to other formats: “document”, “presentation” “spreadsheet”, and “drawing”.

Actually, there is an easy way to do this kind of conversion: just right click your local file and select “GDocsDrive” -> “Convert to …”, and GDocsDrive will do all the uploading, converting, downloading for you.

    • 12.Can I create a Google Docs file directly from GDocsDrive?

Sure, you can find the command from the main menu: "Commands"->"Create....". The file is then created online in Google Docs.

    • 13.How can I refresh the whole collection tree?

Right click the root node "Collections", or any white space, in the tree view panel, and select "Refresh tree". The whole collection tree will then be refreshed.
