• Basics

    • 1.Where are my files stored?

Your files are stored on Google’s storage service in multiple data centers located across the world. Files in GDocsDrive do not require any space of your hard disk.

    • 2.I own multiple computers, and I want to use GDocsDrive on all of them, should I buy multiple licenses?

No, this is a per-user license. One licensed copy of GDocsDrive can be used by a single person who uses the software personally on one or more computers.

    • 3.Are there any requirements for my computer to run GDocsDrive?

Currently, GDocsDrive can only run on Windows XP(32 and 64 bit), Windows Vista(32 and 64 bit) and Windows 7(32 and 64 bit). Mac OS X and some mobile platforms will be supported in the future.

There are no special hardware requirements to run this small tool.

    • 4.Does the GDocsDrive program quit when I close its window? If not, how can I exit this program?

No, when you close the window of GDocsDrive, it is minimized to the system tray at the bottom-right corner on your desktop and continues to work in background.

To quit the program, right click the system tray icon and select "exit" or select the exit option from the main menu.

    • 5.The first time I started GDocsDrive after a successful installation, I ran into this error: “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.” What should I do?

In some very rare and special situations, GDocsDrive may have a conflict with other software installed on your computer. In these situations, when you first start GDocsDrive, you will get an error like: “Runtime Error!”, “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem”, or “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.” The error message depends on the OS of your computer.

To solve this problem, you should reinstall the Microsoft VC++ Redistributable Package, which can be downloaded from here.

    • 6.What’s the recommended way to use GDocsDrive to modify my Google Docs files?

Uploading and converting documents or spreadsheet files to Google Docs format will cause some formatting or style issues, so you may prefer to keep the files original format when you store them on Google Docs cloud. GDocsDrive is designed just for this! To backup and modify your files through Google Docs, we recommend uploading all your files to Google Docs without converting to Google Docs format, and then modify them with your local applications when necessary.
